The Shins - Forum
It’s odd seeing one of your favourite bands perform and not recognizing most of the players – but such was the case with The Shins, who since last seeing them perform in 2007 has seen singer/songwriter James Mercer replace the entire band.
To be fair I always found the sloppy nature of The Shins live performance at odds with the carefully structured recordings and meticulous song-craft – so it was something of a revelation to hear their material performed in a much slicker and more muscular fashion.
The new band are no slouches either: Richard Swift, Modest Mouse drummer Joe Plummer, Yuuki Matthews of Crystal Skulls and guitarist Jessica Dobson who has worked as a guitarist with Beck.
